In early America, a working firearm was an essential tool—used daily by hunters, farmers, and frontiersmen, and often a finely crafted symbol of status for the gentleman sportsman. While professional soldiers might have access to the latest weapons, militiamen and civilians frequently relied on older firearms, keeping earlier styles of ammunition in common use well into later periods.

The smoothbore flintlock musket was the dominant firearm of the 18th century on both sides of the Atlantic. Typically loaded with lead balls ranging from .69 to .75 caliber, these muskets could fire 2–4 shots per minute, though with limited accuracy compared to later firearms.

Our musket ball replicas are cast in our Vermont workshop from lead-free pewter, carefully made to approximate the size and weight of original lead ammunition. These reproductions offer a safe, historically accurate way to interpret early American firearms and daily life.

Each musket ball is packaged in a poly bag with a history card.
