Bilbo-catchers were included in the "curious" assortment of toys advertised by colonial American merchants, and still described as a favorite in children's books through the late 19th century. Also known as a bilboquet, the bilbo-catcher is a toy of the cup & ball family, where the ball is tossed and must be caught on the tip of the spindle by a hole drilled in the ball.
We turn our solid wood 6 1/2" long bilbo-catcher spindle here at our Vermont shop. A solid wood ball is attached by string, and each toy is packaged in a poly bag with a history and instruction card.
