The bilbo-catcher, also known as a bilboquet, is a classic cup and ball toy found in the “curious” assortment of toys sold by colonial American merchants. This engaging skill game remained a favorite in children’s books and popular play well into the 19th century, and remains popular today.
Part of the traditional cup-and-ball family of toys, the bilbo-catcher challenges players to toss the attached ball into the air and catch it neatly on the spindle tip, using the hole drilled through the ball. Simple in design yet challenging to master, it develops coordination, timing, and dexterity.
